Partnering with UNICEF: Oakridgers Pioneering a Sustainable Future

Aristotle aptly described the essence of quality education when he said, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”. Having found a place in one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, the emphasis on quality education becomes important in contemporary educational institutions. It is very important that every child receives the education that helps them transition into becoming empathetic and responsible human beings. In this regard, Nord Anglia Education along with UNICEF organized the NAE-UNICEF Summit from 11th to 15th July 2022. This platform proved to be an opportunity for students around the globe to form crucial stances on the issues that threaten our future. The aim of the summit was to understand the requirements of the youth and their opinions in the global decision-making process. With over 100 students participating in the summit across the globe, the summit proved to be a thriving hub of ideas. Two students, Arya and Harini from DP 1 represented Oakridge International School, Gachibowli at the NAE-UNICEF campus.

On the first day of the summit, students discussed the present condition of educational institutions and structures. Herein, students got access to an exceptional educational survey that helped them understand the ground reality through. It also helped them understand the idea of ‘Factivism’ and construe an impactful message. Whereas, on the second day, students were a part of a political forum wherein they discussed the agenda of protecting the rights of children in the present digital environment.

The third day was the most anticipated one. As the students celebrated World Children’s Day, they took part in the ‘Flip the Script’ workshop. The students were assigned the task of drafting a lesson plan that they would take back to their respective schools and teach either to the students, parents, or teachers. The activity was essential in improving the collaboration, critical thinking, and management skills among the students. Whereas, the students took part in the Advocacy Workshop led by UNICEF on the fourth day. The conference was elemental in enhancing the understanding of successful advocacy among the students. The summit concluded with a plethora of activities planned for the students. All the participants had to fill out a to-do list about SDG 4(Quality Education) which was the main focus throughout the summit. Lastly Elise Ecoff, Education Director NAE wrapped up the session with a small message to all the participants wishing them all the luck and reminding us of our responsibilities and aims for this year.
