Principal’s Desk Update – August 2022
- 12 August 2022
Dear Parents,
It has been a month of change for Oakridge. Mr Brian Cooklin our Managing Director for India Region stepped up to be the Regional Managing Director Europe region Nord Anglia Education. Working with him was a wonderful experience, and I wish him luck in his new endeavours. The new Managing Director for NAE India is Mr Christopher Short. He has been associated with the NAE family for ten years, and we at Oakridge look forward to working with him to take our organisation to new heights.
After our excellent IBDP results, both AISSCE and AISSE results testify to the grit and commitment of students, teachers and parents. Oakridge’s CBSE pass percentage is 100 %, and the average is over 75. Our highest scores for Grades 12 and 10 are 96%.
Talking of change, our Grade 11 students Nidhi.S, Jazz Madonna and Yashitha R. were a part of the week-long NAE UNICEF Summit. Nidhi was nominated as Student Journalist, whereas Jazz and Yashita were the Student Rapporteurs. It is a proud moment for us as the critical recommendations suggested by our Student Rapporteurs have been published by UNICEF.
Each house has managed to fill its score cards with the Inter-House Competitions in progress. CV Raman House is in the lead, followed by Rabindranath Tagore House, Mother Teresa House and Amartya Sen House.
Our IBDP1 and Grade 11 students had excellent sessions through Callido Learning – a provider of digital resources for developing students’ critical thinking and research skills that enhances their learning.
We organised an Inter-School District Level Competition to create awareness about the #SayNoToSingleUsePlastic initiative among the children of Visakhapatnam. This is to support the recent announcement by GVMC on the complete ban of Single Use Plastic in Visakhapatnam. About 800 students from 57 schools in and around Visakhapatnam participated. The event included four competitions – Poster Making, Short Story Writing, Poetry Recitation and Painting, all focusing on the theme “Say NO to plastic, Save our Oceans”.
Our UNICEF team has launched their petition for the same, and I invite all of you to sign the petition and pledge your support toward a plastic-free environment.
