Update from the Principal’s Desk
- 22 November 2022
Dear Parent,
Hasn’t this calendar year just flown by? We are fast approaching the winter break and before that we have term end assessments, report cards, segment wise Annual expectation meetings (AEM) and the glorious inter-house Oaklympics culminating on 16th Dec for Primary school students and 17th December for Senior school
Even though on the main designated sports days you will mainly witness drills, walk past, athletics and prize distribution, let me assure that, for the last few months, each house has given their absolute best in football, basketball, swimming, tennis and badminton to name just a few competitive sports they have been participating in. The euphoria and house spirit of the students representing their houses is electrifying. We are sure our sporty parent community will not miss out the opportunity to participate and cheer the students on this important occasion.
November is also the month when we have a week long agenda to celebrate both the Indian and World children’s day. This exciting week started on 14 th November with casual clothes, popcorn, chocolates, teacher performances and a dance party on the soccer field. Throughout this week children across segments learnt about diversity and sustainability through fun activities like poetry competitions, rap battles, fashion show and podcasts exclusively available on global campus for only Oakridge students.
This month has also been about a special focus on development of critical thinking and problem solving skills through the ed tech platform of Callido. Essentially the Callido team consisting of 8 instructors have spent two dedicated days with each grade (from grade VI to X), with the objective to identify trends through skill assessments called Calibar. The Calibar has generated student based, class based and year group reports based on collaborative planning, goal setting, areas for improvement along with guidance for teachers towards effective differentiation and interventions. We will be happy to share individual student profiles with the respective parents along with the term end report. These external reports give useful indicators and pathways for further strengthening skills essential for success in the 21 st century and consequently enhance academic results.
Our children have once again exceled in holistic education because they not only maintained academic rigour and discipline through regular assessments but also participated in both inter-school and inter-house events. I want to make a special mention of the senior boy’s football team who won the silver medal for flag football against the host school. Rushil of DP 1 secured third place in swimming and Nihaanth and Vivaan emerged as the runners-up in table tennis. Iniya Kopalakrishnan of MYP 3A has made us proud by being selected for national Taekwondo championship
In fact, parents, please join me in wishing the very best to the team of students participating in the State Taekwondo championship this weekend. We will keep you updated on the results. Our best wishes also go out to Avneesh Prabhu of grade IX participating in the state roller skating championship.
I also want to applaud the immensely talented Oakridge band who came runner-up in the inter-school battle of bands and mesmerized us with their stellar performance during the opening ceremony of JMUN. Watch out for this talented group during the opening ceremony of the Oaklympics.
This year Oaklympics is extra special because after the formal opening ceremony, parents can choose between watching a race, prize distribution or stop over at a food or games stalls put up by various grades. The proceeds from each student stall will go towards Akshyapatra to support old age homes and/or orphanages. The details of each stall will be communicated via the class teachers.
Thank you parents for your continued support and cooperation. We look forward to welcoming you on the campus to celebrate the spirit of sports together.
Cheers and kind regards!
