Update from the Principal’s Desk | December 2024

  • 6 December 2024

Dear parents, students, & staff,

The success of our students depends on the strong partnership between school and parents. It was wonderful to meet many of you during our coffee meets this month. I hope these interactions helped us build connections and have open conversations about learning at school.

As parents, your perception of the school comes from your child’s experiences, communication with teachers, and your visits to the school. Please check your mailbox for the Annual Parent Survey link sent on 2nd December with the subject line “Tell us what you think” from feedback_bengaluru@oakridge.in and ensure you have your say. It provides a platform for your voice to be heard and for us to take concrete action. I encourage you to participate in this anonymous survey and help us grow together, all for the benefit of our students who are on the path to creating our future.

As part of Nord Anglia Education, we have a unique partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This collaboration offers opportunities for our students to participate in STEAM challenges designed by MIT, attend webinars, and even visit MIT.

This year, Sachit Shastri from DP1 represented our school along with 65 peers from NAE schools worldwide at MIT. During his visit, he collaborated with professors, graduate, and undergraduate students, working on a camera mount project for studying the northern lights. He returned with invaluable learning and shared his experiences with students during Science Week.

NAE Global campus has launched two MIT Challenges this year, teachers integrate some of the concepts in their science lessons and in the weekly STEAM Club meetings. These activities encourage collaboration, critical thinking, and innovative solutions to global challenges. A question from our PYP student Anjaneya Pandey was chosen to be responded to by an MIT professor and featured in the Ask the Expert Q&A video. We are also excited to announce the MIT Student Trip 2025, open to Grade 8 and 10 students. Many have expressed interest and begun working on the shared challenge. The MIT information and challenges are out on Global Campus platform and students can submit their entries directly via GC.

Sports are an integral part of our school culture. Since July, our learners have excelled in various sports, including swimming, cricket, basketball, taekwondo, rock climbing, tennis, and football. This success is the result of hard work from students, support from families, and efforts by our sports teams.

Looking ahead, our much-awaited Oaklympics- Annual Sports Day is just around the corner:

Primary School: Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025

Secondary School: Thursday, January 23rd, 2025

We invite all parents to join us and cheer on the students during these exciting events.

Aligned with “The Year of Resilience”, and Oaklympics, our Service Fundraiser CASNIVAL on 13th and 14th December aims to support our student-led community projects. Proceeds will go toward initiatives like Karunashray, a hospice for terminally ill cancer patients. This year, we’re also extending our outreach by organizing a friendly game with cancer survivors on December 14th.

As we celebrate resilience and compassion, we look forward to seeing you participate in these impactful events and activities.

Kind Regards,
Kavita Sukhani
