December 2024

Message from the Principal

img

Dear Parents,

As we draw towards the end of 2024, we take immense pride in reflecting on December, a month full of celebration, creativity, and numerous achievements.

Beginning with the joyous occasion of the heartwarming Jingle Joy Christmas Carnival to the pride of the Oakridge being accredited through the UNICEF grant for Project Nexus and the undoubted excitement of the Annual Sports Day – all of December summed up the ‘Oakridge way of life’ well.

As we usher in the new year 2025, let us carry forward the spirit of creativity, hard work, and unity that defined 2024. Oakridge International School, Mohali being a leading IB school shall continue producing innovative and excellent students in every facet. We look forward to sharing new endeavors and ideas meant to improve our students’ educational experiences.

Wishing you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Warm regards,

Suman Kalra

The Jingle Joy Christmas Carnival is one of the most looking forward to the event all year round and was truly a gala. There was a spirit of end-of-year celebration through holiday celebrations among the students, parents, and stakeholders on the campus. The event was quite a colorful showcase of our students who organized one-minute games at various self-crafted stations, sales, and decorations that were sold during the event. The multi-cuisine food stalls included a terrific and varied spread on offer and included gingerbread cookies shaped like Christmas trees, cakes, and muffins among others. The primary students had splendid rides including bull ride, trampoline, and lots of tent house fun. These fun delights accompanied by the festive spirit gave an added zing to the show.

Book Fair & Art exhibition

img

The Book Fair gave us an opportunity to introduce new worlds to our students by providing books for all age levels. At the same time, the Art Exhibition exposed the amazing potential of students in the program. Artwork ranging from paintings, sculptures, and many more made the exhibition prove that creativity is something Oakridge promotes.

The Shaheedi Sabha of the great martyrs, Zorawar Singh Ji and Fateh Singh Ji was particularly reverential and sentimental. Our students paid tribute to their martyrdom and remembered the spirit of bravery, the determination and principle for justice, and their strong fidelity to religion. The school had a special assembly followed by passionate speeches, heartfelt songs, and moments of silence where learners honored the courage of the martyrs who died fighting for faith and equity.

National Mathematics Day

The National Mathematics Day was filled with several recreational and knowledge-enhancement activities to reduce the complexity and stigma attached to mathematical learning, from floors to classroom doors everything had impressions of mathematical calculations, and formulas inculcating the spark of problem-solving and analytical thinking among our students.

Another noticeable event in December was the Secondary segment’s Annual Sports Day. An array of events featuring relays, sack races shot put, and track races showcased their strengths and spirit of collaboration. All the houses; Pascal, Mozart, Picasso, and Shakespeare demonstrated much zeal. The day started with a surprise rainstorm, but it didn’t crush the morale of our athletes and their coaches. Despite the harsh weather, players and coaches showed amazing toughness showcasing the traits of true committed sportsmanship.

Reward & Recognition Ceremony

img

At Oakridge, we believe in the importance of recognizing and rewarding the efforts of our employees to foster a positive and encouraging environment. This year’s Reward & Recognition ceremony concluded by appreciating our exceptional teachers and administrative staff, reflecting their commitment to making Oakridge a place where students can thrive.

Excursions have been embraced by our students as the best way of making their learning process more contextual.

  • Grade 1 explored the concepts of waste management and sustainability with visits to a trash dump in Mohali and the Bougainvillea Garden. The trip aligned with their unit of inquiry, giving them valuable insights into environmental practices and the need for sustainable solutions.
  • Grade 2 visited the Tank Fitness Gym and Wellness Centre, where they engaged in activities that promoted physical fitness and well-being. This trip emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle from a young age.
  • Grade 4 had an exciting outing to the Rock Garden in Chandigarh, where they explored the world of art and culture. The trip helped the student develop aesthetic interests and an enjoyment of the opportunities, artists have, to be creative with recycled objects. Every field trip allowed students to develop concrete ideas directly related to their coursework while establishing a progressively stronger rudimentary bond with the surrounding reality.
  • Grade 5 students as a part of their learning experience had a tour of the Fortis Hospital, where they learned and understood about healthcare and Medical practices. It exposed the students to the health care environment hence the understanding of health issues, wellness, and the various cardinal roles of health care workers.

Each field trip provided students with hands-on learning experiences, enriching their academic knowledge and deepening their connection with the world around them.

Coffee Meets

img

Our school witnessed a wave of quite successful and productive Coffee Mornings exclusively for the EYP & PYP parents facilitating them to directly interface with the us. These interactions allowed parents to have conversations with the teachers and to question and observe the instructional setting in which their wards learn and grow. More of the highlight of the Coffee Mornings was a list of small events organized by the students like Cultural Parades demonstrating the world’s various cultures through costumes, models, and presentations, and a few skits based on the concept of Earth & natural resource conservation. Overall, everything turned out to be extremely beneficial for both parents and the school community.

It is with great pleasure that our School has received the UNICEF grant for Project Nexus, the sustainability and social change school project for Oakridge. The money that will be received through this grant would help in funding different projects that would advocate for the improvement of students’ learning process and the promotion of concerns related to different environmental issues in the learning institution’s physical environment. This great accomplishment focuses on the goals of our school where together with delivering quality education the school also aims to contribute to society through relevant projects.
