Update from the Principal’s Desk | January 2025
- 6 January 2025
Wishing you a very happy new year!
We started the year with Homecoming 2025, an event organized by our student council. It was good to see our students reveling, certainly dressed in their best.
Our DP 2 students have started getting their placements in universities and colleges. So far, we have received 33 offers. Some of those include Duke University, Michigan State University, University of Bristol, and Pratt Institute School of Architecture, Higgins Hall.
Our social outreach committee of the student council announced the launch of Relay for Life, an event organized to raise funds and create awareness about cancer. Relay for life is a collaboration with the Indian Cancer Society to remember those we have lost to cancer, bring hope and strength to those who are fighting and celebrate all who have won the battle. You will hear more from the team in the coming weeks. The culmination is an overnight walkathon in March 2025 for students above grade 8 and any parents from our school community who would like to participate and raise funds for the cause.
I would take this opportunity to thank all the parents who took out a few minutes to fill out the parent survey last month. While we deep dive into the results to share an overview with you soon, we noticed that several survey comments touched on a very important point that bothered our parent community and that is teacher turnover and how our current teachers are meeting the teaching expectations of an IB school.
I would like to reiterate that quality assurance has been my biggest goal this year. Our teachers are working earnestly and from the last AEM I did hear many parents say things are settling in. We agree we had a large cohort of teachers joined this year and they are all committed to the program. We are leaving no stone unturned to train or mentor teachers both internally and externally.
This month we have 3 days Teacher Training for Early Years to Grade 2. We also have our interschool hackathon Codefest happening this weekend. Our Annual Sports Day Oaklympics will be held on 22nd & 23rd January and Interschool Sports Fest Phoenix Cup will be held on 24th & 25th January.
We will end January with Primary outstation trips and start February with Secondary outstation trips. Safety is of paramount importance, and we invest time looking at every aspect of the trips to ensure our students enjoy the trips.
I’m sure I’ll get to see many of you at various events in school this month. Looking forward to meaningful conversations.
Kind Regards,
Kavita Sukhani
