Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders Through Global Simulations and Debates

As a parent, professional, and ardent advocate of quality education, I believe that the foundation laid during school years plays a critical role in shaping a child’s future. My journey with Oakridge International School began as a mother of two students who did their complete schooling at Oakridge International, Gachibowli campus. Both my children flourished at the school. I believe that the nurturing environment with a balanced view to academics and extracurriculars is what creates a conducive place for children and enables them to realize their true potential. Both my children have graduated from school and are on their chosen paths to becoming citizens of the world, professionals contributing their best.

Recently, I had the privilege of returning to Oakridge School to the Bachupally campus as a guest for their MUN event. This experience has been both nostalgic and profoundly insightful, reaffirming my belief in the power of platforms like Model United Nations (MUN) in preparing our children for the future workplace. Reflecting on my children’s journey with both being avid MUNers as participants, and organizers and holding leadership positions over the years a significant part that this played in their growth. As a parent, I have advised multiple young parents to expose their children to the MUN platform.  

Having spent nearly 25 years in the corporate world, including a significant tenure having held multiple leadership positions at Wells Fargo, and now as Partner at Gloplax, I’ve seen firsthand the skills that are crucial in today’s dynamic and fast-paced work environment. These skills—leadership, public speaking, problem-solving, diplomacy, taking initiative, crisis management among others —are not just taught within the four walls of a classroom but are nurtured and developed through experiential learning opportunities like MUN.

• The Value of MUN in Real-World Preparation

MUN offers students a unique platform to step into the shoes of global leaders, diplomats, and policymakers. It provides an environment where they can debate pressing international issues, draft resolutions, and engage in negotiations that mirror real-world scenarios. This hands-on experience is invaluable as it teaches them the importance of understanding diverse perspectives, building consensus, and making informed decisions—skills that are valued in the workplace.

During the Oakridge Bachupally MUN 2024, I witnessed young minds engage in intense discussions, showcasing their ability to think critically and work collaboratively. The passion and commitment these students exhibited were truly commendable. It reminded me of my children, who, as Oakridge alumni, benefited immensely from participating in MUN. The confidence they gained, the friendships they forged, and the skills they developed have been instrumental in their professional journeys.

As I stood before the young delegates at the Oakridge Bachupally MUN 2024, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride—not just as a mother of Oakridge graduates but as someone who has seen the impact of such experiences in the professional world. The ability to lead, to articulate thoughts clearly, to solve problems creatively, and to work as part of a team are qualities that will serve these students well, no matter where their futures take them.

In closing, I want to commend Oakridge International School for its unwavering commitment to preparing students for life beyond the classroom. The MUN  is a shining example of how the school fosters the growth of well-rounded individuals who are ready to take on the challenges of the future workplace. I am confident that the skills and experiences gained through MUN will continue to empower Oakridge students, just as they have empowered my own children, to achieve success in their chosen paths.
