Sporting Champions: Oakridge International School Bachupally Excels at National Competitions

Oakridge International School Bachupally places a strong emphasis on the importance of sports as an integral part of a comprehensive education.

Sports go beyond just physical activity; they teach vital life skills such as leadership, resilience, and teamwork, contributing to the development of well-rounded individuals who are prepared to tackle future challenges. This season, Oakridge’s young athletes brought home an impressive array of medals, demonstrating their commitment to excellence, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

At the recently concluded CBSE Cluster VII Basketball Championship at Viswasanthi EMH School of Vijayawada held from October 2 to 6, 2024, the Oakridge U-19 boys’ basketball team won the championship gold, making them the forefront in the competition. Their achievement stands for months of practice and concentration where the school has also managed to inculcate a culture of sporting practice amidst normal studies.

Basketball Coach Mr. Ashwin, a FIBA Technical Official and WABC Coach added, ” As someone who has both played and coached at different levels, I truly understand the vital role that quality facilities and support play in shaping young athletes. At Oakridge, we provide the resources needed for students to excel while fostering a nurturing environment where they can flourish. Witnessing their growth and achievements, both on and off the court, is inspiring.”

In a dazzling victory, Nidhi of Grade 12 CBSE represented Telangana in the Junior National Throwball Championship and fetched home a bronze medal. A feat such as this speaks volumes of Oakridge’s commitment towards making all students at the forefront of the sporting world.

Equally sharing in the glory was the school contingent that participated in the ISSO India National Taekwondo Competition with students bringing home a total of 12 medals in different categories. Gold medals were won by Dhrithi Neela (7B) in under 38kg and Mohammad Mutahir (9B) under 63kg. Silver and bronze medals were also secured by Srish Thatipally, Vivek Bhargav, Aashman Taneja, Ekadheera Raana Varma, Krthika Nera, Naga Sai Parmitha, Yalavarthy Ishya, Sharvita Avutu, Akshara, Khushi, Neha, and Myra Taneja in various weight divisions and Poomsae performances.

Principal Ms Anuradha Varma shared, “At Oakridge International School Bachupally, we foster an environment that not only encourages academic excellence but also promotes sportsmanship and physical development. Our commitment to nurturing young athletes is reflected in their remarkable achievements, as we believe that sports play a vital role in shaping confident and resilient individuals.”

Reflecting on his experience, student Mohammad Mutahir, who won a gold medal under the 63kg category expressed, “Winning a gold medal in taekwondo has been an incredible experience for me. The training at Oakridge has helped me grow not just as an athlete, but also as a person. I appreciate the support from my coaches and peers, which has made this journey even more fulfilling.”

Krisha, Grade 5 PYP, secured a bronze medal at the CBSE National Swimming Competition, held from 11th to 14th October in Bhubaneswar.
