Students of PYP 4 at Oakridge International School Bengaluru went on an educational trip to Belur – Sakleshpur for three days in connection with their unit on Civilization. The trip was designed to provide hands-on learning experiences, helping students explore the development of ancient societies, their cultural practices, and their lasting influence on the modern world.
Throughout the journey, students visited significant historical sites like the Hoysaleshwara temple in Halebeedu, engaged in interactive sessions with the guides to get a better understanding of the history of the civilization and observed architectural marvels that reflected the rich heritage of past civilizations. They had the opportunity to witness artifacts, listen to expert narrations, and participate in activities that deepened their understanding of how civilizations evolved over time.
Children had an experience of the biodiversity through a guided nature walk. They engaged in sustainable practices by collecting trash as they trekked up a hill. Learners had a unique experience of village life as they strolled through lush landscapes, interacted with locals and witnessed traditional rural activities. They immersed themselves in the simplicity and warmth of village culture while enjoying the serene beauty of nature, which was a memorable journey into authentic rural traditions. Students visited and discovered the spiritual legacy of Shravanabelagola. They enjoyed the trek of nearly 700 steps and the scenic beauty of the place.
Beyond academics, the trip fostered teamwork, independence, and curiosity. Students bonded with peers, navigated new environments, and reflected on the importance of civilizations in shaping human history. The experience left them with a deeper appreciation for the past and its connections to the present, making learning truly meaningful and memorable.
