Igniting Passion for MYP Personal Project
- 15 February 2022
Pursue your passion, no matter what anyone else thinks.
That’s how dreams are achieved and it is known that when passion and skill work together, the end result is exemplary. It is for this reason that we have called Personal Project in MYP “Passion Project.”
Tell me , I forget Teach me, I may Remember Involve me and I will learn.
These words of Benjamin Franklin have formed the cornerstone of Personal Project philosophy in our school. Personal Project is the experiential student centric component of the MYP 5 curriculum which enables the students to engage in something they always wanted to do.
MYP Personal Project is mandated for each student of MYP 5. All students have to complete the project before appearing for e-assessment under the guidance of Personal Project coordinator and mentor. The personal project encourages students to practice and strengthen their approaches to learning (ATL) skills, consolidate prior and subject-specific learning and to develop an area of personal interest. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to produce a truly personal and often creative product/outcome and to demonstrate a consolidation of their learning in the MYP. It also offers many opportunities for differentiation of learning and expression according to students’ individual needs. The personal nature of the project is important; the project should revolve around a challenge that motivates and interests the individual student. The students of MYP 5 Batch Of 2022 started the journey in April 2021 by choosing a goal. And since then they have been working hard, doing research, planning, collecting information, organizing, some of them teaching, some of them learning new skills and what not. You name it and they have done it!
With the ever-changing normal in the present pandemic times, the excitement and enthusiasm of OISB students knew no bounds and they were all set for the culmination of Personal Project in virtual format. January 28th 2022 dawned as a clear morning with the Sun shining brightly witnessing the Virtual Personal Exhibition of Oakridge International School, Bangalore. The Exhibition started with our traditional virtual Lamp Lighting Ceremony followed by our alumni Athmika Krishnan and Anmol Malik of DP 1, sharing their experiences. Our respected Principal, Ms. Pallavi Mishra addressed the parents and students. After a short introduction to MYP Projects, role of Mentors, the guests were guided to join the Interacting Rooms virtually. The students were divided into 8 Interacting rooms to give them a chance to talk about their Projects with the guest- Parents, Students and other teachers.
The guests were amazed and awed by the interaction with the students and the wide array of projects ranging from Sound in Gaming for Blind, Dog Parenting, Music Therapy, Home Automation, Gaming Apps to books galore! Each project was unique in it’s own way especially how it would help the society. The excitement and the passion for their project was palpating through the screens and making the virtual exhibition a live one!! With the Interacting Rooms going live twice, gave the opportunity to all the guests to move around and meet each of the student of the Batch of 2021-22. The exhibition ended at 1430 pm with a sense of achievement among the participants and satisfied smile on the Mentors and Personal Project Coordinator’s face for another successful completion of yet another Exhibition.
