Address the pressing issues

To address the pressing issues of climate change, pollution, and loss of biodiversity, students at Oakridge International School Bengaluru have pledged themselves to make conscious choices in line with Sustainable Development Goals. “Our students are continuously engaged in activities that contribute to SDGs. They raise awareness in the community to embrace sustainable production & consumption”, highlighted Principal Kavita Sukhani As a part of CNN Call to Earth Day celebrations, several activities were organized in school, such as:

Sustainable Quilting Project

On December 4th, PYP 5 learners collaborated with DP 1 learners on ” The Quilt Project – stitching together their reusable clothes to help those who are in need of quilts to keep them warm. They also created installation art using biodegradable materials, The project was also beautifully connected to their recently concluded PYP Unit 2 inquiry about “The Earth Systems ” and the DP CAS activities. Through this hands-on activity, learners deepened their understanding of reusing resources and taking meaningful action to care for the underprivileged people around them. “I hope this helps those people suffering in the cold winter, who are homeless”, said Ishita from PYP 5C.

Electronics & Digital Detox Drive

The school community took an impactful step toward combating climate change through the Electronics & Digital Detox Drive, an initiative to save energy and promote sustainable living. On December 4th evening, the learners turned off non-essential lights, digital devices, and electrical appliances at their homes for 30 minutes. They spent that time connecting with family through activities such as storytelling, sing along, or simply enjoying quiet time together.
