Cultivating Lifelong Learning: Empowering Educators for a Brighter Future

  • 19 June 2024

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” – W.B. Yeats

At Oakridge, we firmly believe that learning is a lifelong journey, not just for students, but for educators as well. When teachers continually upgrade their knowledge, and when a school prioritizes professional development, it fosters growth for both students and teachers alike. As a proud member of Nord Anglia Education, we place a strong emphasis on professional development, continually seeking innovative ways to provide our teachers with opportunities to learn and grow through collaboration and sharing within our global community.

One of the highlights of our professional learning program is the annual Teaching and Learning Conference. This year, seven dedicated teachers from Oakridge attended the Hanoi Conference, returning with a wealth of knowledge and insights to share with their colleagues. The three-day event featured numerous seminars on topics such as neurodiversity, expressive arts for social and emotional growth, innovative curriculum design, metacognition and deeper learning, curriculum enrichment, and introducing meaningful social impact programs. The impact of these seminars on our teachers has been profound, enriching their teaching practices and perspectives.

“Learning is the only thing the mind never exhausts, never fears, and never regrets.” This quote by Leonardo da Vinci encapsulates our commitment to continuous learning. Every year, our teachers eagerly anticipate the opportunity to attend these conferences, knowing that the insights gained will enhance their ability to inspire and educate our students.

Professional learning at Oakridge goes beyond traditional training and implementation. We recognize the importance of self-directed learning, which is why we offer our teachers access to Nord Anglia University. This platform features a variety of modules designed to help teachers enhance their skills and improve classroom quality. As John Dewey once said, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” By investing in our teachers’ professional growth, we ensure they are well-equipped to provide the best possible education to our students.

At Oakridge, we are committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth, ensuring that both our educators and students thrive in an ever-evolving educational landscape. For the insightful glimpse into the Hanoi conference, click the link for further updates.
