Taking an interdisciplinary approach to teaching science and technology gives children the skills needed to thrive in the 21st century and impact global communities and the world through our collaboration with UNICEF, MIT and Global campus. Oakridge International School is giving young people an education that broadens their understanding of how they can impact important issues including sustainability and equality which equips them with the confidence, collaborative mind-set and leadership skills to make a positive change in their communities and the world at large.
By tackling real-world challenges across the subjects of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM), your child will develop transferable skills such as flexibility, creativity and communication. They will be encouraged to experiment rather than wait for instructions, and will learn that collaboration and critical thinking can solve even the trickiest problems.
As evidence of their commitment to excellence in education, the Nord Anglia Education – Oakridge International School has established an ongoing collaboration with the highly prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), to introduce structure which will help your child to engage in innovative way of learning the STEAM subjects which encourages creativity, experimentation, and teaches them how to apply their skills to real-world situations.
The open-ended nature of inquiry within the MIT challenges allows students to contemplate many facets of the given tasks and apply creativity to explore the avenues leading to novel solutions. The hallmarks of the project-based learning that will ensue are the interdisciplinarity between science technology engineering art and math, student agency, leadership and collaboration via the rich diversity of STEAM experiences for the community.
The collaboration provides multiple opportunities for students and teachers to tap into the resource base provided by our other Nord Anglia schools across the globe as well as to be inspired by learning about the cutting edge research projects and methods from the MIT professors themselves. The resource sharing and student collaboration takes place on the unique, dynamic, user friendly and engaging web platform called Global Campus.
Oakridge students are continuously exposed to the ethos of the Maker Culture and to the MIT tradition of Hacking to innovate within design constraints and over the years, our teachers have reported a shift towards a growth mindset in students, allowing them to think differently. The MIT collaboration has empowered teachers to see students differently and to employ project-based learning based on 21st century pedagogy within their classrooms.
Impacting Communities and the world through our collaboration with UNICEF. We believe at Oakridge International School in giving young people an education that broadens their understanding of how they can impact important issues including sustainability and equality which equips them with the confidence, collaborative mind-set and leadership skills to make a positive change in their communities and the world at large. The student ambassadors worked to develop meaningful strategies for their own schools around the importance of children’s rights.
Student of Oakridge, Niyathi says “Being a student of Oakridge International School there is constant exposure to many good opportunities such as MIT STEAM activities and interactive platforms such as Global Campus. I love working on ‘Share a Dream’ – a social engagement platform. This helped me to explore many hidden talents, empowering me to think and act on global goals. As a solution for social engagement it facilitates a school community that will create a positive and a powerful impact in the society.”
